For technical and also ethical reasons (it could be classed as spying), Mailtrack does not specifically tell you when your emails have been forwarded, and to whom they have been forwarded.
Mailsuite is one of the most accurate email trackers available. When you send a tracked email with Mailsuite, you can know exactly when the recipient opened your email and how many times. Mailsuite achieves this by using pixel-based email tracking.
This means that when you send a tracked email with Mailsuite, Mailsuite adds a 1x1 pixel image to your email. When the recipient opens your email, their email server loads that image and Mailsuite is notified (assuming they haven’t disabled image downloading).
So what happens if the original recipient forwards a tracked email and the new recipients open it?
Unfortunately, pixel-based tracking is not able to identify email forwards or additional recipient opens. This is true regardless of whether you send a tracked email from your smartphone or desktop device.
Furthermore, due to privacy concerns, Mailsuite can not specifically tell you when your emails have been forwarded or to whom they have been forwarded.
How to see email forwards in Mailsuite
Despite concrete data not being available about email forwards, it is still possible to identify when an email has been forwarded to additional recipients.
When your emails are forwarded to someone else and that person opens the forwarded email, you will receive an open notification. However, this open will be attributed to the original mail recipient. Mailsuite, along with most other popular email trackers, cannot legally track forwarded emails, meaning it cannot identify that it was not the original recipient that opened the email.
However, if an unusually high number of opens are being generated for a particular email that you've sent, then you can normally assume that the email has been forwarded. To help you easily see multiple email opens, Mailsuite marks emails as Active in your inbox.
Even though you can’t see who received the forwarded email, you will be able to clearly see that the recipient and their organization are interested in your email if there are several opens in a short period of time.
You can view an email’s full tracking history on your mobile device or desktop, as well as in your Mailsuite Dashboard.
